No, no, no... you've got it all wrong!
I am 28 years old so, no, I didn't go to Prom.
I am 28 years old so, no, I didn't go to Prom.
Again.
My NEPHEWS went to Prom!
And I learned that I still have that yearning to go and experience that magical night. Get a beautiful fancy new dress that I will only wear one time, get my hair done at the hair dresser in some wispy up-do that may or may not be adorned with gems, have my nails (both fingers and toes) done, and be picked up by some handsome boy with a corsage that matches that beautiful dress that I am wearing. Aaaahhhh. Doesn't that sound blissful?
I think it does. But I don't know if it's true cause I've never gone.
But I did get a glimpse into the world of "Prom" this last Saturday.
I have 2 nephews who went to Cottonwood High Schools Prom on Saturday night. How did I get this glimpse? you ask? Well let me tell you...
One of my Nephews, we'll call him Spencer, is 17 and totally cool. How do I know he is totally cool? Because he was nominated for Prom King. Nominated, schnominated, you say. Ok, get this... he WON! Is that cool, or what? So now you know that I am cool, because My nephew is Cottonwood High's Prom King. I expect you to bow down when you see me because I am related to royalty. He also had a super cute date. You can see her below... She is the cheerleader that is with Reagan. Super cute. They had a great night planned... dinner at Rodigio Grill downtown, then off to the dance at Rice Eccles Stadium at the U, then regroup to watch a hypnotist that they hired to come and entertain them for the remainder of the evening. As you can see, Spencer had a great night.
My other Nephew, we'll call him Hunter, is 15 and totally cool. How do I know he is totally cool? Well, with Hunter, you just know. He exudes coolness. There is just something about him that is cool. You'd know what I mean if you met him. He also had a fun night planned. Super cute date, you can see Quincy below. Super cute. They had dinner at Asian Star, went up to the dance at Rice Eccles, and then went laser tagging. Fun night. I actually think he had a great night.
Here was the problem. If you didn't catch this before, Hunter is 15 and apparently had some other friends in the group that were also 15 and they needed someone to drive them as they do not yet have their license. Well, Hunter asked his cool mom to drive them. Heidi has to be cool. I mean, who would ask their mom to drive them to Prom if she weren't cool? You just wouldn't. So that validates her coolness. Anyway... Heidi was great with that but she had to meet up with Spencer to take pictures of him and his date with their group at the very time that Hunter was supposed to pick up his date and go take pictures with his group before they went to dinner. How could Heidi be in these two places at one time? She just couldn't.
So that is where I come in.
Heidi called me and asked if I would mind standing in for her. Of course I agreed! How could I pass this up? So, I got to drive Hunter and his friend to pick up their dates and then meet their group to take pictures and drop them off at dinner. Heidi took it from there.
I had the best time! And I think Hunter did too, minus my bad driving in the crazy weather! Why do we always get the craziest weather when we least want it? They were all great about it and I don't think it effected their night in the slightest. Here is my handsome nephew, Hunter, and his super cute date, Quincy, before we went to dinner.
Hunter was very nervous. Well, he wasn't really nervous, but I was nervous for him! He did keep checking himself in the mirror, though. Not that I can blame him... I would have done the same! But he didn't need to worry. Look how handsome he is
When it was finally time to go pick up their dates, it was blizzarding outside. And I am not even exagerating. Look at it coming down!
After we picked up the girls we met back at one of their friend's house to take pictures with the group. Here is Hunter, Quincy, his friend that rode with us and his date Abby.
Don't they look so cute? And so excited?
Here is a picture of the group. Don't they all look beautiful? I must say that I think they do. The only thing that kind of made me sad was the amount of strapless and spaghetti strap dresses there were. As you see only 1 girl had a jacket on. And may I remind you that it was BLIZZARDING outside! The girls that I picked up even refused to bring coats with them. WHAT? I thought that was completely crazy, but that's just me. As disappointing as that was, they did look gorgeous.
Here is a picture of Quincy's beautiful corsage. There was a bit of an issue with the boys' corsages, but I thought hers turned out so pretty!
Here is the couple out in the snow
And this is my absolute favorite shot. They are walking out to the car in this crazy weather and it looks like a fairytale or a dream or something. So cool.
I am so glad that Heidi asked me to help out. And that Hunter dared let me. I had forgotten what it was like to be in High School and be excited and giddy for a dance or to be with a boy you liked. It was invigorating to be around their energy. I couldn't help but smile with them and take some of that energy for myself! Oh, to be young and carefree! It was great!
And my dream of going to Prom has been re-ignited in me!
And my dream of going to Prom has been re-ignited in me!
I know I am 28
and I know I am not in high school anymore,
but I just don't care.
I really want to go! Ha!
I really want to go! Ha!

This is such a cute post. I love your creative writing style.
I actually went to Prom with your husband!!! Okay, he wasn't actually my date, but I'm sure he was in my group. In fact, we were in the same group for almost all of our dances senior year.
This post is taking me back to some of the funnest days of my life and I'm feeling so grateful that I had the MOST AMAZING friends. So amazing, in fact, that I love to still keep in touch with them. I even love keeping in touch with their spouses!!
Every time I read your blog I just feel so grateful that Steve found an amazing wife and has three beautiful children. I'm so grateful to see some of my most amazing friends living their happily ever afters, which is way better than Prom!
p.s. your nephews are so cute. I just can't believe they are that old. They were little kids when I knew them!
How fun! Heidi has gorgeous kids! Tell Spencer congratulations! Prom King. . . that's amazing! Shows you what good kids they are. Thanks for sharing and thanks for being such a great aunt! Your family is awesome!
What a great story and pictures too.
I went to Prom a few times, but it wasn't a fairytale. Actually one year I couldn't wait for it to be over. Oh memories!
